THIS IS OUR STORY

The mission of DC Actors for Animals, Inc. (DCa4a) is to help animals in the Washington DC metropolitan area through adoption, advocacy, and education. Members of DCa4a are theater professionals working on and off stage at the area's biggest theaters. DCa4a coordinates adoption events, charity events, and fundraisers with local rescue organizations and animal shelters, provides world class entertainment, and promotes humane education for owners and animals-in-need in DC, MD, and VA. The cornerstone event is an annual star-studded adopt-a-thon, Beltway Barks, featuring musical performances, local vendors, and presentations of adoptable animals from rescue groups throughout the area. Inspired by Broadway Barks®, an organization founded by Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore to help animals in the New York City area, Lisa Carrier Baker founded DCa4a to do the same in DC.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

"It's been an honor to combine two of my passions into one: performing and animal advocacy. I've had the opportunity to perform at two of the Beltway Barks events, as well as doing an in-home fundraising performance for a generous donor. It's amazing to be able to share the spotlight and the stage with animals in need. As performers, we have the privilege and platform to give a voice to the voiceless, to raise awareness, and to fearlessly present animals with empathy and passion. To me, it's a natural partnership: artists and animals."
